Sébastien Bonin - 2025
Born in 1977, Brussels, Belgium. Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Working across various mediums, Sébastien Bonin uses painting in dialogue with sculpture, photography and installation to build a territory where memory, craft and tradition resonate. His work proceeds from subtraction, from a deliberate economy of gesture and material, leaving only the essential. The chromatic reduction he imposes on his palette is part of this logic of restraint, where colour becomes a vehicle of temporality and afterglow.
In these paintings the artist’s work is deeply rooted in the exploration of memory, desire, and the concept of home. Through vivid and emotive painting, dreamlike spaces evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a house that exists only in the imagination. Each work is a visual manifestation of an idealised, imperfect place. In this process, the artist invites the viewer to reflect on the notion of home—both as a physical space and a mental construct— and the deep emotional ties that such spaces can evoke.
