Ioanna Limniou - 2024

A Dog Called Douar

Born in 1987, Alexandroupoli, Greece. Lives and works in Athens, Greece.

Ioanna Limniou’s paintings feature classical figurative and still life imagery rendered with an expressionistic aesthetic. Integrating the materiality of her mediums in her work, she employs oils, crayons, and watercolour pencils. Each piece is approached as if it were a tale being told on canvas, with different hues used to convey seriousness, light-heartedness, passion, gloom, and even irony. The combination of her technique and subject matter gives the impression of peering into memory, both the artist’s and the viewer’s. Limniou’s art explores uncharted territories of human and animal perception, inviting us on a profound journey of self-discovery.

These paintings hint at a sense of wonder and nostalgia, evoking the glow of the moon and quiet tales whispered in the dark. Limniou’s works invite viewers to embark on a journey through a world where the boundaries between the human and the natural blur into a serene and harmonious whole.
