Work, education and self-realisation: the next chapter

Alain Dehaze, former CEO of Adecco, discusses education, shifting careers and the changing role of work in personal fulfilment.

Alain Dehaze, former CEO of Adecco Group and Board Member of Galileo Global Education sets the stage for a discussion with Frederic Pivetta on how education, work and careers are being reshaped.

For much of the past century, the path seemed relatively clear: education first, work next, retirement at the end. Today that sequence is far less certain. Careers now span multiple roles, professions and places; education demands adaptable skills; and work itself is being transformed by automation and global labour markets.

As careers fragment and education evolves, how should we rethink work, learning and identity? With knowledge outpacing institutions, what does it mean to be well educated, and how do we navigate increasingly non-linear paths?

In a world where education, work and identity are being quietly renegotiated, the real question may no longer be how to build a career, but how to build a life around it.
