Blood clots: what you need to know to stay safe

Aspirin ‘thins’ the blood. What exactly does that mean and why can that be beneficial to your heart or brain? Can it help you live longer?

In this keynote, world-leading hematologist prof. dr. Cédric Hermans will explain how aspirin and other anticoagulant medications change how our bodies form clots. To do so, he will offer a clear and visual explanation of how clots form, how the body’s blood clotting system works, and what causes the formation of blood clots (thrombosis). He will also show how each of us can take steps to lower our risk – with or without aspirin - and how promising treatments are helping more and more people.
