TheOtium spoken word nights

An open stage for Merode members to share poetry, stories and sharp ideas.

In ancient Rome, otium meant time set aside from business and obligation, a space for reflection, conversation and thought.

On selected Friday evenings, TheOtium lives up to its name.

TheMerode brings together people from very different worlds. The range of voices in this house is remarkable. Yet we often meet one another through the lens of our expertise. TheOtium Spoken Word Nights invites us to meet through our humanity instead.

Merode members take the mic to share short pieces of poetry or spoken word. Personal reflections, sharp observations, quiet confessions, unexpected humour. Each edition is shaped entirely by those who step forward.

Join us in TheOtium café on Friday evening for a drink, a story and a different kind of pause.

If you would like to perform at a future edition, please write to programme@themerode.com. Pieces should be between 2 and 5 minutes. All languages welcome.
