Join us for a spring-inspired tasting experience celebrating the art of the apéritif, a timeless ritual that invites us to slow down, gather, and savour the beginning of an evening.

Hosted by JML in collaboration with Jean-Robert, a seasoned spirits professional, this intimate session will explore a curated selection of classic aperitif drinks, each with its own story, heritage, and craftsmanship.

During the tasting, participants will discover the traditions and savoir-faire behind these iconic beverages while enjoying six carefully selected pours, highlighting the diversity and character of the aperitif culture. The selection will include drinks such as: Pineau des Charentes, Porto Tonic, Vermouth, Pommeau and other classic aperitif discoveries.

Throughout the experience, Jean-Robert will guide guests through the origins, production methods, and tasting notes of each drink, offering insights into how these beverages have shaped the convivial ritual of the aperitif.

A relaxed and convivial moment designed to welcome the arrival of spring, celebrate flavour, and rediscover the pleasure of sharing a glass before dinner.

Jean-Robert Lalancette

Jean-Robert Lalancette is a former academic and historian of international politics whose career took an unexpected—and rather delicious—turn following a formative encounter with a bottle of Cockburn’s 1955 Port at Oxford. Inspired by this moment, he immersed himself in the world of wine and spirits, joining tasting societies and managing his college bar as a passionate pursuit. What began as a hobby soon evolved into a full-fledged career. Over the years, Jean-Robert has developed an extensive and nuanced understanding of the drinks world, becoming a dedicated advocate for the thoughtful enjoyment of fine wines, spirits, cocktails, and food. He encourages incorporating these pleasures—always in moderation—into everyday life as a way to enrich and elevate it. He began his professional journey in London, one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse drinks markets, where he honed his expertise. His deep knowledge and discerning palate led him to a role as a commercial buyer for a specialist retail chain catering to an elite clientele, including Masters of Wine, international celebrities, high-net-worth individuals, and acclaimed television chefs. Now based in Brussels, Jean-Robert works with one of Belgium’s leading wine and spirits importers. In parallel, he advises high-end bars and Michelin-starred restaurants, bringing his passion and expertise to some of the most refined tables in the industry.
