Studio visits with DEMAIN Art

Discover the studios and the works of Vincent Chenut and Antoine Carbonne, two talented Brussels-based emerging artists

Vincent Chenut et Antoine Carbonne
open the door of their studio for an intimate encounter organized by DEMAIN Art and TheMerode.

During the studio visits, meet Antoine Carbonne et Vincent Chenut at their worksite, a chance to better understand their approach and to discover their practice in the intimate context of their studio.

Mark your calendars and join us on the 2nd of May for a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the universe of the two artists and to experience what goes on behind the scenes.

Vincent Chenut (b. 1985) is a visual artist based in Brussels. He graduated from ENAV La Cambre in 2011. In his distinctive approach to drawing, he uses a variety of unconventional tools and paper.

Through his work, Vincent re-actualizes the question of representation (through figuration as well as abstraction). How can we account for the thickness of things? How to materialize the infinite layering of the existing (human tissue, geological strata, etc.)? Vincent Chenut partly answers this question by doing a work of destruction. He adopts a singular modus operandi: the peeling of the drawing, literally and figuratively.

His work is currently part of the group exhibition MOON JUICE at the gallery Waldburger Wouters in Brussels.

Antoine Carbonne (b. 1987) is a painter based between Paris and Brussels. His work is a construction of the mind, operating a back and forth between real forms and fantasized elements. Contemporary society is at the heart of his reflection, using painted collage techniques. During his creative process, Antoine often uses two or three drawing-intentions and places them on a support (wall, canvas, paper). This way, he composes a kind of archaic and sensitive Photoshop montage. It is by approaching the medium instinctively that Antoine Carbonne came to gouache. He feels more in harmony with this technique as it allows him to be closer to pigment. For him the intellectualization of painting seems to have as much importance as the act itself in his work.

His currently participating in the group show Young Belgium 2 at the Patinoire Royale in Brussels

DEMAIN Art :

Fellow members Florence Derck & Diane van Impe are the founders of DEMAIN Art, a platform dedicated to supporting Belgium-based artists. DEMAIN selects and sells unique artworks through their online platform and during studio visits.
