A cinematic journey through Sebastião Salgado’s lens, capturing humanity’s struggles, nature’s beauty, and hope across four decades of his work.
To celebrate ENERGIA. Artistic Presence in the Belgian–Brazilian Landscape, join us for a screening of The Salt of the Earth, directed by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.
The film portrays the life and work of the internationally acclaimed Brazilian photographer, Sebastião Salgado (8 February 1944 – 23 May 2025).
The film showcases many of Salgado’s photographs exploring nature and its people, including four works on view in the exhibition, with his own commentary on their creation.
The film traces 40 years of Salgado's work, taking him from South America to Africa, Europe and the Arctic, before returning him home to Brazil. His work confronts us with the consequences of international conflicts, starvation and exodus, but also with the beauty of natural landscapes, both pristine and in decline. This is a film about the raw realities of the human condition, and about a man who never turned his head away. Above all, though, it is a film of hope.
Join the curators for a guided tour of the exhibition at 6 pm, before the screening.
