Once a month, TheMerode invites you to experience a new format: the Literary Salon by Elliot Ibouzidene. Here, the notion of a “salon” regains its original meaning — an intimate, contemporary gathering devoted to literature, conceived as a living conversation rather than a formal lecture.
Each session opens with an introductory moment — a reading, excerpt, or conceptual perspective — setting the tone for the discussion to follow in a relaxed atmosphere of collective reflection and exchange.
For this final Literary Salon of the season, the discussion will begin not from a specific theme or author, but from the personal libraries of the participants themselves.
Each participant is invited to bring three books:
This exercise offers an opportunity, before the summer break, to take stock of one's reading habits and revisit that ever-growing "to-be-read" pile — or tsundoku, as the Japanese call it.
Through these literary self-portraits, the conversation will explore the landscapes of contemporary readership: the books we cherish, postpone, abandon, or return to. Together, participants will reflect on the similarities and differences that emerge from these choices, and on how our reading habits shape our sensibilities, our interests, and ultimately our relationship with the world around us.
As always, spontaneity and improvisation will remain central to the format, allowing conversations to unfold organically through shared recommendations, anecdotes, and discoveries.
Please note that bringing these three books is an essential part of the experience and is mandatory for all participants.
The Literary Salon takes place at TheMerode, in an intimate and welcoming setting. Held once a month, always on Fridays.
