Once a month, TheMerode invites you to experience a new format: the Literary Salon by Elliot Ibouzidene. Here, the notion of a “salon” regains its original meaning — an intimate, contemporary gathering devoted to literature, conceived as a living conversation rather than a formal lecture.
Each session opens with an introductory moment (reading, excerpt, or conceptual perspective), followed by a tea timewith tea, coffee, and mignardises, creating the conditions for a relaxed and collective exchange. Participants are invited to bring a book — a novel, poetry, theatre, essay, or literary interview, recent or not — which will serve as a starting point for discussion. Everyone is welcome to share, in a few words, why they chose this book, when they read it, and the place it holds in their reading life today.
By inviting emerging writers from the Belgian and French scenes, this cycle seeks to place books and literature back at the centre of contemporary cultural life. Reading today can be understood as a gentle form of resistance: a space for slowness, attention, and critical thought. The Literary Salon offers precisely this — a moment of “time in its pure state,” where knowledge, curiosity, and shared experience come together.
The Literary Salon takes place at TheMerode (Rue aux Laines) in an intimate setting.
Always on Fridays, once a month.
