Charlie Stuart is a distinguished British diplomat with a multifaceted background encompassing military service, diplomacy, and security expertise. Currently serving as the European Union’s Chief Security Advisor on Africa, Charlie plays a pivotal role in shaping security strategies across the continent.
Prior to his diplomatic career, Charlie served with honor in the British Army, where he was commissioned into the regiment that played a crucial role in the closure of the gates at Hougoumont Farm on 18th June 1815, an event considered by the Duke of Wellington to be the turning point in the battle against Napoleon.
Transitioning from military service to diplomacy, Charlie held key diplomatic positions including Head of Delegation for the EU in Tanzania and Deputy Chief of Mission in both Tanzania and Iraq.
Charlie's diverse background also includes experience in the private sector, where he served as a director of a UK-based global security company and worked as a corporate lawyer specializing in major projects and oil exploration operations.
