How can the absurdity of Sisyphus’ condition help us navigate through life? A philosophical consideration on human condition with Raphaël Enthoven.
Much like Sisyphus’ ceaseless task of pushing a boulder uphill only to watch it tumble down again, what compels us to endure our perpetual dilemmas ?
What is the Myth of Sisyphus about?
It’s about a punishment inflicted by the gods on the one who dared to deceive them twice and chain death. It’s about a sentence to endlessly carry a stone heavier than oneself to the top of a mountain, only to watch it roll back down and start over again. It’s about the futility, vanity, and therefore the beauty of human activities. Because to fight, to struggle, to protest, is an end in itself, unsupported by any hope or sustained by any faith, except for the strange loyalty that enables a man to accept his condition, to hear the void command him to do well, and to be content to live without finding a reason for it. Sisyphus is not a god. But if he wants to, Sisyphus can be a hero. And all men are in the same position.
Join us and philosopher Raphaël Enthoven for a contemporary approach to the Myth of Sisyphus.
The conference will be followed by a book signing session of the author’s latest releases: Krasnaïa (2022) and Le Temps Gagné (2020).
