Private Guided Tour of Wiels' Lutz Bacher Exhibition

As Part of its Cultural Programme, TheMerode Invites its Members to Discover Exhibitions within Brussels’ Contemporary Art Scene.

Join us for a guided visit and discussion at WIELS, dedicated to the exhibition Lutz Bacher — the first major institutional presentation in Belgium devoted to the influential and elusive American artist.

Bringing together works spanning several decades, the exhibition offers an immersive exploration of Lutz Bacher’s singular artistic universe, where identity, power, media culture, gender, and violence intersect through a wide variety of forms and materials. Blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality, intimacy and spectacle, Bacher’s work continuously challenges conventional systems of representation and perception.

For this special session, participants will discover the artist’s multidisciplinary practice through installations, photographs, sculptures, videos, and found objects that together construct fragmented and emotionally charged environments. Known for maintaining a deliberately mysterious public persona throughout her career, Lutz Bacher developed a body of work that remains both deeply personal and strikingly political.

The visit will explore the recurring themes present throughout the exhibition: celebrity culture, surveillance, masculinity, vulnerability, and the tension between attraction and discomfort. Through subtle juxtapositions and unexpected visual narratives, the exhibition invites viewers to question the images, systems, and cultural codes that shape contemporary society.

Located in the former Wielemans-Ceuppens brewery, WIELS has become one of Europe’s leading institutions for contemporary art, known for presenting ambitious exhibitions by internationally acclaimed artists while fostering dialogue between artistic experimentation and social reflection.

An inspiring gathering designed for art lovers, creatives, collectors, and anyone curious about one of contemporary art’s most enigmatic and influential figures.

Come by your own means, 15 minutes sharp before the start of the visit.

Address: WIELS, Av. Van Volxem 354, 1190 Brussels.
