A conversation on sex, power and modern couplehood
In the week of Valentine’s Day, TheMerode invites you to take a different path. Not towards clichés or candlelit small talk, but towards a frank conversation about intimacy, power, vulnerability and the quiet misunderstandings that shape modern relationships.
We bring together two generations of sexologists for an exchange on how desire, pleasure and expectations between men and women are evolving, and why, for many, satisfaction remains elusive.
Joëlle Smets is a clinical sexologist, a researcher at ULB and a former journalist. In her recent book La puissance sexuelle des femmes, she challenges one of the great silences of our time: the persistence of female sexual dissatisfaction. Her work draws on scientific research and clinical practice to dismantle inherited myths about performance, fulfilment and “normal” sexuality.
Facing her is Louise Lempereur, a newly qualified sexotherapist who approaches intimacy through dialogue and play. She is the creator of En profondeur, a card game designed to open conversations around sex, boundaries and connection. To put it bluntly, she summarises her position like this: women should be penetrated less often, and men more.
Moderated in French by Béa Ercolini, this evening is designed as a live, participatory conversation rather than a one-way lecture, come prepared with questions, doubts and curiosity!
