“Nadia” : From refugee to football star

A special screening of the documentary “Nadia” at BOZAR in the presence of the film’s director, Anissa Bonnefont.

To mark International Women's Day, the United Nations, the European Commission and BOZAR present "Nadia" and invites TheMerode members to discover the inspiring story of the international football star, Nadia Nadim in the eponymous documentary by Anissa Bonnefont.

How do you rebuild yourself after losing your father and homeland at the age of 8?

Nadia Nadim, who experienced a tragedy early in life when her father was murdered by the Taliban in 2000, found solace in the beautiful game of football. Fueled by her passion for the sport, she went on to become a striker for both the national team of her adopted country, Denmark, and the prestigious Paris-Saint-Germain team. Her story serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the transformative power of determination and hard work.

Nadia wants to return to Afghanistan to find out more about her father’s fate.

Take this opportunity to discover the journey of perseverance for the UNESCO ambassador and future reconstructive surgeon.

Meet and share with Anissa Bonnefont, the director of the film.
