La Table des Voyageurs with regatta sailor Alexia Barrier

A conversation about solo racing, ocean conservation, and an all-female round-the-world challenge.

La Table des Voyageurs welcomes French-born Alexia Barrier, a world-class sailor preparing for her next major challenge: leading an all-female crew on a record-breaking, non-stop sailing race around the world. “The Famous Project” aims to set a new women's benchmark for the Jules Verne Trophy, the ultimate speed challenge in ocean racing.

With over 200,000 nautical miles sailed, 18 transatlantic crossings—five solo—and a Vendée Globe 2020 finish, Alexia is one of the most experienced ocean racers of her generation. She is also committed to ocean conservation through her “4myplanet” foundation, which collects scientific data during races and educates thousands of scholars.

As the Vendée Globe 2024 concludes, Alexia will share insights into solo ocean racing, the challenges of assembling a high-performance female crew, and the ambitious voyage ahead.

This fourth edition of La Table des Voyageurs, moderated by journalist and travel designer Caroline Chapeaux, offers an intimate setting to explore extraordinary journeys. Hop on board!

Alexia Barrier

A world-class regatta sailor and professional ocean race navigator, Alexia Barrier grew up on the Côte d’Azur and started sailing with her parents at three. By 15, she was already a sailing instructor. While studying sports management at UFE-STAPS Nice, she worked as a co-skipper and sailor, going pro at 25. Since then, she has sailed over 200,000 nautical miles, earned multiple awards, and competed in more than 17 transatlantic races. In 2018, she acquired a 60-foot IMOCA monohull to participate in the 2020 Vendée Globe, the world’s toughest solo, non-stop race. Her passion for the ocean led her to create 4myplanet, a research program that collected over a million data samples during her five-month solo circumnavigation. Today, 4myplanet collaborates with UNESCO to integrate scientific data collection into racing and runs an educational program followed by 5,000 scientists and researchers. She continues sharing her experience in schools worldwide.
