A long view on driving sport, governance and horse welfare.
Mark Wentein has spent most of his life in the world of horses — not only as a competitor, but as an organiser, editor and advocate. Few people combine practical experience with institutional influence as thoroughly.
Between 1998 and 2018, he competed in six World Championships in single-horse driving. He later served on the FEI Driving Committee and today remains active as an FEI Official and Technical Delegate. He is also Chairman of the European Horse Network, where he works on policy issues affecting equestrian sport across the continent.
Alongside these international roles, Wentein has worked for more than 50 years as a carriage driver in Bruges. He is President of the Bruges Coachmen’s Association, dealing directly with the practical realities of working horses in a historic, high-tourism city — an environment where tradition, regulation and welfare increasingly overlap.
For nearly four decades, he has also been publisher and senior editor of HIPPO Revue, Belgium’s leading equestrian magazine. His perspective therefore stretches from local streets to international federations, and from daily practice to long-term policy.
Join us for lunch with La Table des Cavaliers founder Fabio Ghezzi Morgalanti, for a conversation on sport, responsibility, and how equestrian traditions are adapting to modern expectations.
