Projection & Talk with Boris Bergmann and Bruno Schmidt
TheMerode invites you to the screening of Kenny Scharf: When Worlds Collide, a documentary dedicated to the American artist Kenny Scharf, currently presented in a solo exhibition at Almine Rech Brussels.
Kenny Scharf first rose to prominence in the legendary New York Downtown Scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, alongside artists such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, and many others who reshaped contemporary art and popular culture. A key figure of this era, Scharf’s work has consistently combined a pop sensibility with a sharp critique of consumerism, while addressing ecology and the fragility of our environment. For over fifty years, he has created a unique alternative universe, both playful and critical, which continues to resonate today.
The screening will be followed by an intimate conversation between Boris Bergmann and Bruno Schmidt at TheOtium Bar, offering insights into Scharf’s artistic journey and the cultural legacy of this pivotal moment in art history.
