Jazz for Breakfast : an Intimate Performance

Redefining Jazz with Maxime Dereux & Jonas Paenen

TheMerode, in collaboration with Conservamus — the non-profit organisation supporting the renovation of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels — invites you to start your day with the warmth and poetry of live jazz. For a morning where time slows down, and Jazz becomes the language.

Maxime Dereux â€” saxophonist — and Jonas Paenen â€” pianist — form a duo that explores an introspective and contemporary jazz language, driven by emotion, subtlety, and attentive listening. Their music unfolds through rich harmonic landscapes and expressive improvisations, where melody and texture are in constant dialogue.

Drawing on their complementary backgrounds — Maxime’s lyrical and expressive approach to the saxophone, and Jonas’s refined pianistic sensibility rooted in jazz and composition — they create a sonic space where intimacy meets expansiveness, moving between delicacy, intensity, and depth. Together, they offer a musical journey that is nuanced, modern, and deeply evocative.

The occasion to enjoy 'TheOtium Bar' if you haven’t yet, with fresh pastries as music fills up the air. Carefully curated to get inspired for your day.
