Guided tour of Four Sisters at the Jewish Museum of Belgium

Join us for a visit of the exhibition Four Sisters celebrating the work of Chantal Ackerman, Marianne Berenhaut, Sarah Kaliski and Julia Pirotte.

Four Jewish women, four artists marked by the Shoah, memory and silence, but also exploring the condition of women: four sisters.

Four Sisters is a choral exhibition that follows the gaze of four figures, whose lives, placed end to end, cover an entire century of history.

As Jews, they have questioned the weight of belonging and transmission, the power of a scattered and diasporic culture.

Combining works and archives, images and texts, monographic presentations and collective arrangements, Four Sisters interweaves the threads of these life stories in a weaving fashion extending into the present, through the punctuated participation of artists from a younger generation.

Join us on June 20 for a guided tour of Four Sisters, an exhibition that explores the intertwining of these four women’s personal and artistic journeys, within the historical context of the Shoah.

This exhibition project is realized in partnership with Bozar, the Museum of Photography of Charleroi, the C.A Foundation and the Polish Institute Brussels.

Artists :
Chantal Akerman:
Akerman’s frontal and verist look at daily life, often inhabited by women, questions, through gestures and rituals, the definitions of femininity and the relationship we have with memory.

Marianne Berenhaut
The subtle balance of her works questions the instability of identities, that of women as well as that of the objects that compose them.

Sarah Kaliski
One can observe in Kaliski’s work the thematic recurrence of the torments inflicted by the Nazis, Belgian culture and identity, violence towards children and the sexual freedom of women.

Julia Pirotte
Julia Pirotte’s poignant photographic work is one of the rare and precious visual testimonies of the Resistance. Pirotte never stopped photographing her daily life as a resistance fighter and activist.
