Climate change: too risky to insure?

Will Climate Change make it impossible to insure your house in the near future?

As climate change progresses, Belgium is facing more frequent and intense weather events—floods, storms, and droughts that were once considered exceptional. These changes are increasingly affecting our homes, infrastructure, and daily lives.

At the same time, the cost of protecting property through insurance is rising. In some cases, premiums may become too expensive for households in high-risk areas. This raises important questions: what happens when the cost of insurance becomes too high? Can we still afford it in the future?

Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, former Vice-Chair of the Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change (IPCC or GIEC); Julie Willem, Innovation Lead at Atenor and Hein Lannoy, CEO of Assuralia will explore how climate change impacts insurance and our daily lives in a discussion moderated by Anthony Wolf from Sia.

They will debate about the increase of climate risk, its impact on insurance and how we can prevent risks.
