Can Boris Dilliès Fix Brussels?

A conversation with the new Minister-President of the Brussels Region on restoring confidence in Europe’s capital.

When Boris Dilliès was unexpectedly appointed Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region earlier this year, he inherited one of the most difficult political jobs in Europe.

After a prolonged political crisis, the new government now faces a formidable agenda: stabilising public finances, addressing concerns around security and mobility, and restoring confidence in the governance of a city that serves both as Belgium’s capital and the political heart of Europe.

Previously mayor of Uccle, Dilliès now leads a coalition of seven parties with very different visions for the future of Brussels. The question many observers are asking is whether this government can succeed where others have struggled.

At TheMerode, he will share how he views the challenges ahead and the priorities that will shape Brussels in the coming years.

Part of the event will take the form of an Ask Me Anything conversation. Members are invited to submit their questions in advance. Selected questions will be put directly to the Minister-President during the discussion.

Boris Dillies

Boris Dilliès has served as Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region since February 2026, leading the government of Belgium’s capital and the administrative heart of the European Union. A member of the Reformist Movement (MR), he previously served as mayor of Uccle, one of Brussels’ largest municipalities, since 2017. Before becoming mayor, he held several responsibilities in local and regional politics, including roles within the Brussels Parliament and municipal government. Dilliès began his political career in the 1990s and is widely regarded as a representative of the classical liberal tradition within Brussels politics. Known for his direct style and willingness to engage in public debate, he now faces the challenge of guiding a coalition government through a period marked by fiscal pressure, political fragmentation and growing questions about the governance of the Belgian capital.
