Discover the history and secrets of TheMerode’s premises
The stunning building TheMerode has been breathing fresh air into since November 2021 has a long history dating back to the 16th century. It used to be the home of Charles de Merode, who, when President of the Senate in 1863, donated his sprawling gardens - today’s Place Poelaert - to the Belgian state. The 6,000-square-meter-large mansion is full of stories and loaded with heritage.
We invite you to learn more about these timeworn walls with a member of the Merode dynasty himself, Prince Félix de Merode, who has a passion for historic buildings. Together with his siblings and parents, he manages the Family estates Schloss Merode in Germany and Château de Rixensart in Belgium. He believes castles are “the new fortresses where to keep alive tradition, culture and beauty.”
Join us for an insightful evening unveiling the stories hidden in our historic walls!
