Jeppe Hein - 2017

THE LOUNGE

Jeppe Hein (1974, Denmark) is widely known for his production of experiential and interactive artworks that can be positioned at the junction where art, architecture, and technical inventions intersect.

Unique in their formal simplicity and notable for their frequent use of humor, his works engage in a lively dialogue with the traditions of Minimalist sculpture and Conceptual art of the 1970s. Jeppe Hein’s works often feature surprising and captivating elements which place spectators at the centre of events and focus on their experience and perception of the surrounding space.

Jeppe Hein bases much of his practice on the relationships that exist between our internal consciousness and more physical elements. Using minimal yet elegant materials that often reflect our own image, as well as forms that playfully encourage us to move our bodies and to change positions, Hein creates an interactive and constantly changing dialogue between the spectator, the work, and the exhibition space that surrounds it.

He challenges us to re-think the ways in which our mind and our bodies are connected, and to reflect on how we navigate through the metaphysical and physical worlds.
