Mekhitar Garabedian - 2022
THE ROSE SALON
Mekhitar Garabedian (1977, Syria) lives and works in Ghent.
Deploying a variety of media such as drawing, video, photography and installations, many of the works of Mekhitar Garabedian (1977, Syria) draw from his experience as an immigrant and play on the humour and poetic qualities he finds between languages, cultures and histories.
He examines how the split that migration creates continues to determine the present and how, accordingly, 'language' forms the position and the psyche of the migrant. Just as his personal diasporic history is layered, his work echoes with a multiplicity of references to literature, music, philosophy and visual arts.
