Jacky Tsai - 2019

Chinese Spa - Gold Version

GREEN CORRIDOR

Jacky Tsai (1984, Shanghai) is passionate about both traditional Oriental art and Western pop art, and his work is at the crossroads of these aesthetics and iconographies. The Chinese artist is hugely influenced by the work of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, which he combines with the culture of his own country.

West, East, future, past: everything comes together in Jacky Tsai's approach, which also develops a political dimension with these superheroes, heralds of Western power integrated into demeaning situations.

With a view to preserving his country's heritage, Jacky Tsai also uses Chinese craft techniques that are in danger of disappearing, such as Chinese Spa, which is engraved on wood before being painted with lacquer and gold leaf by Chinese craftsmen.

Jacky Tsai is a multimedia Chinese artist based in London. Spanning from traditional canvas to NFT real-time based digitals, Tsai’s artworks create alternative narratives and realities by constantly reflecting on ours.
