TheOtium spoken word night

A relaxed evening of poetry, stories and spoken word. Come to listen, support, or take the stage.

In ancient Rome, otium meant time set aside from business and obligation, a space for reflection, conversation and thought.

On selected Friday evenings, TheOtium lives up to its name.

TheMerode brings together people from very different worlds. The range of voices in this house is remarkable. Yet we often meet one another through the lens of our expertise. TheOtium Spoken Word Nights invites us to meet through our humanity instead.

Some members will take the mic to share poetry, personal stories, reflections, humour, or spoken word. Others will simply come to listen, discover new voices, and enjoy an evening of thoughtful conversation. Both are equally part of what makes the night special.

Join us in TheOtium café on Friday evening for a drink, a story, and a different kind of pause.

If you would like to perform at this edition, please write to programme@themerode.com. Pieces should be between 2 and 5 minutes. Can be in English, French or Dutch.
