Join us at TheMerode on Saturday September 12th for a special day open to the public.
At TheMerode, we believe art is both a barometer of society and a vector for change. It challenges how we think, allowing us to hold different perspectives at once, question our own, and return to ourselves with greater clarity. Art creates space for conversations, unexpected connections and new relationships.
For its second edition, TheMerode Art Day is very proud to host ‘PETER LINDBERGH, HORS-CHAMP’, curated specifically for TheMerode; Marc Spiegler in conversation with Kendell Geers; ‘Works on Paper’ by David Shrigley; a live concert by Soprano Elise Caluwaerts and The Now Collective; and the monumental sculpture ‘Must Be’ by Tony Cragg.
Part of RendezVous – Brussels Art Week, the day marks the opening of our cultural season and brings some of the most exciting voices in contemporary art under one roof.

The Programme:
9:00 - 11:00: Walking breakfast with DAVID SHRIGLEY, leading British artist who emerged in the 1990s and works across drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, animation, and print.
11:00 - 17:00: PETER LINDBERGH. HORS-CHAMP Exhibition Vernissage, celebrating one of the most influential photographers of our time, renowned for redefining fashion photography through his timeless, cinematic imagery.
Throughout the day, you can join one of our guided tours or discover the short film PINA BAUSCH - A Portrait by Peter Lindbergh, based on “Der Fensterputzer”.

17:00 - 18:30: Concert by Soprano ELISE CALUWAERTS & the Now Collective. Elise Caluwaerts & The Now Collective will play a compelling musical programme from the changing seasons of Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires to the luminous farewell of Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs and the passion and tragedy of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, this programme explores the cycles that shape our lives: love and loss, transformation, nature and renewal.
At its heart lies the idea of seasons both human and natural. In a time when the rhythms of our planet are increasingly disrupted, music invites us to listen differently: to time, to nature, and to what we risk losing. A journey through some of classical music’s most powerful and magical sound worlds.
18:30 - 20:00: Art Matters with MARC SPIEGLER (global director of Art Basel from 2012 to 2022), hosted by KENDELL GEERS. A conversation about ‘Artworld 2026: destabilization, disruption and degrowth’.
Marc Spiegler is a cultural strategist, journalist and former Global Director of Art Basel (2012–2022). A leading voice in the international art world, he now advises cultural organizations and continues to explore the forces shaping the global art ecosystem.
Registering for the event doesn’t mean you have to attend the whole day. You’re welcome to join whichever session(s) suit you, whether in the morning or evening.
