The Breakfast Club: British politics 10 years after Brexit

British Politics, 10  years after the Brexit referendum

What has Brexit actually changed about British politics, ten years on from the referendum?

Richard Corbett joins us for a candid conversation about Britain’s political upheaval, the rise of Reform UK, Labour under the new prime minister Andy Burnham, and the evolving debate about its relationship with Europe.

Moderated by Philip Tod and held under Chatham House Rules, The Breakfast Club is a small, closed-door conversation designed to encourage frank and open discussion.

Richard Corbett spent almost two decades as a Member of the European Parliament, where he played a leading role in shaping the Parliament’s powers. He later advised European Council President Herman Van Rompuy before returning to the European Parliament where he became the Leader of the Labour Party MEP's. He is also the author of the standard reference work on the European Parliament and taught at the College of Europe.

Richard Corbett

Richard Corbett is one of the most experienced observers of British and European politics of his generation. A Member of the European Parliament for close to two decades, he served as co-rapporteur on both the Lisbon Treaty and the Constitutional Treaty that preceded it, helping to shape the Parliament's legislative powers as they exist today. Between 2010 and 2014 he advised Herman Van Rompuy, the first permanent President of the European Council. He later led the European Parliamentary Labour Party, sitting on Labour's National Executive Committee at the moment the party moved towards supporting a second referendum. He is the author of the standard reference work on the European Parliament, now in its tenth edition, and teaches at the College of Europe in Bruges.
