Professor Cédric Blanpain, MD/PhD, is a full professor and WELBIO investigator at the IRIBHM, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. His groundbreaking research focuses on understanding epithelial stem cells in development, homeostasis, and cancer. He has identified novel stem cell populations in the epidermis, prostate, and mammary gland, unraveling cancer cell origins in these tissues. Using innovative genetic approaches, his lab explores cancer stem cells within their natural microenvironment, uncovering intrinsic and extrinsic regulatory mechanisms. Supported by Belgian FNRS, WELBIO, and the European Research Council, Professor Blanpain has received prestigious awards, including the EMBO Young Investigator and ISSCR Outstanding Young Investigator. As an EMBO member since 2012, he stands at the forefront of stem cell and cancer research.
