Meet the Artist: Hans Op de Beeck

An intimate conversation with the internationally acclaimed Belgian artist.

On the occasion of his exhibition 'Vanishing Point' at Almine Rech, his first solo exhibition in Brussels in 15 years, TheMerode invites Hans Op de Beeck for a conversation about his multidisciplinary practice and poetic universe.


Renowned for his immersive installations, contemplative sculptures, films and drawings, Hans Op de Beeck creates quiet, introspective worlds that reflect on the fragility and absurdity of the human condition.


In conversation with radio host Chantal Pattyn, Hans Op de Beeck will discuss his solo exhibition at Almine Rech, an immersive installation that invites viewers to pause and linger at the threshold between presence and disappearance.


To immerse yourself in Hans Op de Beeck's artistic practice, his film 'Staging Silence (3)' will be screened in the Conference Room before the talk. 


The exhibition ‘Vanishing Point’ by Hans Op de Beeck will be on view at Almine Rech, from 10 September to 7 November.

Hans Op de Beeck

Hans Op de Beeck is an internationally acclaimed Belgian artist producing large installations, sculptures, films, drawings, paintings, photographs and texts. His work is a reflection on our complex society and the universal questions of meaning and mortality that resonate within it. He regards man as a being who stages the world around him in a tragi-comic way. Op de Beeck is keen to stimulate the viewers’ senses and invite them to really experience the image. He seeks to create a form of visual fiction that delivers a moment of wonder and silence. Op de Beeck has shown his work extensively in solo and group exhibitions around the world.

Chantal Pattyn

Chantal Pattyn studied Art History at Ghent University and has served as Network Manager of Klara, Belgium's classical music and arts radio station, since 2007. She also hosts Pompidou, Klara's weekly arts programme, and regularly appears as an arts expert across other media. A Solvay Fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Pattyn represents VRT on the Steering Committee of the Prix Europa. She is also Chair of the Board of Kaaitheater and serves on the boards of Bl!ndman and CultuurInvest. Following the Klara Festival, held annually in Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp, Pattyn took up the role of Culture Manager at VRT.
