Cellar Society: Between the Rhine and the Vosges

In the secrets of slow hours, join us for a wine tasting of long-gone seasons.

For this special edition of TheMerode Cellar Society, embark on a comparative journey through the wines of Alsace, Rheinhessen, the Pfalz and Baden, exploring the subtle yet fascinating differences between wine regions located on either side of the Rhine.

Although geographically close, these neighbouring regions offer remarkably distinct expressions of similar grape varieties. Through a carefully curated tasting, we will explore how climate, soils, local traditions and winemaking philosophies shape the identity and character of each wine.

The tasting will feature a diverse selection of eight wines, including a Riesling Brut Nature sparkling wine, a Weissburgunder from Rheinhessen, an Alsatian Pinot Gris, a creative Alsatian blend from a new generation of winemakers, a limestone-driven Riesling from the Pfalz, a terroir-focused Alsatian Riesling, a Spätburgunder from Baden, and a premium Alsatian red blend made from noble grape varieties.

Throughout the evening, participants will discover how the same or similar grape varieties can take on remarkably different personalities depending on their terroir and cultural context. From the elegance and depth of Alsatian wines to the precision and structure of Germany’s finest terroirs, the tasting will offer a fascinating insight into the diversity of the Rhine wine landscape.

As with every TheMerode Cellar Society gathering, the wines will be accompanied by a selection of carefully crafted food pairings, designed to highlight the character of each wine and enhance the overall tasting experience.

An evening dedicated to discovery, comparison and conviviality, bringing together the Alsatian art of living and the discipline and excellence of Germany’s great wine regions — all through the lens of the vineyards surrounding the Rhine.

An educational and convivial experience designed for both curious wine enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs alike.

The Stables Brasserie will remain open in the evening. If you wish to enjoy dinner after the program, you are welcome to reserve your table through this link: https://bookings.zenchef.com/results?rid=372692&utm_source=chatgpt.com

Antony Cnudde

After training as a chef, he graduated from COOVI, where he developed the foundations of his culinary career. Following his studies, he gained experience in several restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Restaurant Michel, before eventually opening his own restaurant. Through his training and work in the kitchen as a chef, his passion for flavors and aromas has always been central to his approach to gastronomy. This natural curiosity gradually led him to develop a deeper interest in wine. During his years in the restaurant industry, he began importing champagne together with his father-in-law to supply their restaurants. This initiative soon expanded to include a broader selection of wines, which ultimately became the foundation of Wijnen Michel. Since 2012, he has continued to expand the wine portfolio of the company, constantly seeking refined wines that clearly express the character of their terroir.
