America at the midterms: Trump, congress and what comes next

A lunchtime briefing on the political forces shaping America’s next chapter

With Americans set to vote in the midterm elections for Congress, what is the state of American politics almost two years into Donald Trump’s second presidency? Are the midterms a referendum on Trump and the future direction of the MAGA movement? Where do the Democrats stand after their 2024 defeat? What are the prospects of either chamber of Congress changing hands, and what could the results mean for the remainder of Trump’s term? And who are the leading contenders for the presidential race in 2028?

Discuss these and other questions with Sarah Wheaton, host of POLITICO’s Playbook Weekender podcast and former White House correspondent.
