Our history
A particular club
in a hotel particulier
The origins of the Hôtel The Merode date back to the first half of the 16th century. It wasn't until 1791 that the building took the name of Hôtel The Merode.
In 1863, Charles de Merode, then President of the Senate, ceded to the Belgian State most of his "lovely secular gardens" surrounding the building the Hôtel The Merode now occupies, which was his family home. This allowed the important construction of the Palais de Justice on Place Poelaert, known at the time as Place de Merode.
In 2010, the Cercle de Lorraine restored the private historical mansion of 6,000m². In 2020, TheMerode team took over the club and transformed it into a private members' club that opened its doors in November 2021.
