In 2023, the city plans to speed up the process of becoming more sustainable and inclusive, cooperate more with citizens, companies and organisations, design a new urban space and raise residents’ awareness about nature and the environment.
The city has shown a systemic approach in its transition towards sustainability with interlinked strategic goals for 2035, linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In the Green Capital year, Tallinn’s main themes will be biodiversity, innovation, climate and sustainable governance. The city also wishes to further involve local communities in city development, find opportunities to support green innovation, develop environmentally friendly modes of travel, such as cycle lanes and public transport, and instill a circular economy. Additionally, the objective is to help citizens better understand the importance of environmental protection.
