On the 20th of May, join the host of our regular Morning Talks series, journalist Hakima Darhmouch, as she interviews the unstoppable author, entrepreneur and campaigner Sana Afouaiz.

Sana is an award-winning gender expert, women’s advocate, and public speaker on feminism and women’s issues. She is the author of “Invisible Women of the Middle East”. She has spoken in 50 countries at universities, panel discussions and international events, and appeared on various channels such as the Huffington Post, TV5Monde, BCC, El Pais, NATO Association, Le Matin and more to discuss gender equality.

As well as founding Womenpreneur Initiative, which aims to advance women’s place in the entrepreneurial scene, technology, innovation and society, Sana is the co-founder of Womenquake, a global movement that revisits and critically examines the beliefs, myths and ideas about gender. She has also worked as an advisor on Gender for the UN and European Commission.

Over coffee and breakfast, we’ll hear from Sana about how she built her career, the real world changes she’s affected and the most urgent frontiers in global gender equality.

About Sana:

In 2016, Sana Afouaiz established the Womenpreneur Initiative that aims to advance women’s place in the entrepreneurial scene, technology, innovation and society. Since its establishment, Womenpreneur has trained 16,000 women in Belgium and the MENA region.
Through her work, Sana reached thousands of women, to drive visibility, social impact, and resources for women in the ecosystem and beyond.

For the past 7 years, Sana advised the United Nations, European Commission, corporate institutions and organisations on gender issues. She was heavily involved in SDGs discussions, she helped draft several resolutions and recommendations on gender in New York, Bali, Geneva, and Paris and presented them to UN representatives.

She is the co-founder of Womenquake, a global movement that revisits and critically examines the beliefs, myths and ideas about gender. She uses her platform to advance the equality agenda through story-telling, social campaigns, and sharing tools to empower women. These experiences led her to organise several campaigns including reforming Moroccan law that allowed rapists to marry their victims.

In recognition of her achievements, Sana was named influential woman by the World Bank, named inspiring entrepreneur by Adecco Group, nominated among SE100 most inspiring Social Innovators by Social Enablers, she was awarded Ashoka Changemaker Award, she was named Influential female entrepreneur by Knowing Arabia, Watching Arabia and among 5 most inspiring and talented women by Moustacho.

About Hakima:

Hakima Darhmouch graduated in communication. In 2014, she obtained an Executive Master in Management at Solvay Business School. She made her debut in radio in 1999, and a few months later joined the team of reporters at RTL. As a journalist, deputy editor-in-chief and presenter of the most watched news programme in French-speaking Belgium for 12 years, Hakima also covers political news. In 2018, she made a major professional change by joining the public service. She joined the management committee of RTBF where she was in charge of the “Culture” department for more than three years. In 2021, Hakima Darhmouch decided to take up new professional challenges in line with her personal aspirations. She is now a communication consultant at akkanto. Since 2021, she is board member  at Bozar and the Atomium.
