Tony Estanguet, a three-time Olympic champion and leader of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee will be joined by Pierre-Olivier Beckers, a dedicated sports enthusiast and Chairman of the Coordination Commission for Paris 2024.

In 2024, the Paralympic Games will reach new heights, with 549 events, over 300 hours of broadcasting and 3.4 million tickets available.

Pierre-Olivier Beckers

Chairman of the Coordination Commission for the 23rd Olympic Games in Paris 2024

After studying applied economics at the Louvain School of Management (LSM),  Belgium, Beckers did his MBA at Harvard Business School. His longest role has been at Delhaize Belgium (1988-1998) where he has been president and CEO of Delhaize Group (1999-2013) and member of the board of directors of Delhaize Group (1995-2015).

Within sports, Beckers has been Member of the Board of the Belgian Interfederal Olympic Committee (COIB) from 2002 to present and President of the COIB  from 2004 to 2021. His career in the IOC spans several roles; he is Vice-Chairman of the Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad Los Angeles 2028 and Chairman of the Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Paris 2024. Personally, he plays hockey, swims, cycles, skis, and enjoys mountaineering and hiking.

Beckers has received several awards and honours, named Belgium’s Best Manager of the Year 1999, Managing Director of the Year for the BEL 20 in 2008, Belgium’s Best Managing Director for Investor Relations – Thomson Extel in 2010, and Commander of the Order of Leopold in 2013.

President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Le sport peut tout changer !

Tony Estanguet is three-time European champion, three-time world champion and three-time Olympic champion, was France’s flag-bearer at the Beijing Games and is the first French athlete to have won three gold medals in three different Olympiads (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and London 2012).

He was elected to the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes Commission in 2012, and has been especially involved in the IOC’s Sustainability and Legacy Commission. He has also been Vice-President of the International Canoe Federation since 2014.

He co-chaired the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid Committee alongside Bernard Lapasset and all the stakeholders involved in the project – the sports movement, civil society, public sector and private sector. This campaign won France the Games after the country’s bids had been declined five times.

As President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, his aim is to bring together all the communities and organisations that want to take part in the Olympic and Paralympic adventure to showcase France at its finest and tender a new model for more spectacular, more responsible and more open Games.

Tony Estanguet was born in Pau on 6 May 1978 and grew up in a family of sports enthusiasts – who especially enjoyed nature sports in the nearby Pyrenees. He has already started sharing this passion for all sports with his three children.
