This exhibition shows works by international established and emerging artists such as Simon Fujiwara, Thomas Hirshhorn or Pauline François. The theme of the exhibition revolves around the notions of celebrity, visibility, reputation and the image and identity that one tries to convey of oneself.
In the 1960s, an artist who had grasped the mechanisms of endogenous visibility, theorised by Nathalie Heinich in her book De la visibilité (On visibility), coined the phrase “I am famous mainly for being famous” and predicted that in the future, everyone would have 15 minutes of fame.
The visibility, fame and reputation of Warhol are such that he no longer even needs to be present in the exhibition. His participation comes from that which artists like Douglas Gordon, and the inset referring to the work Double Elvis in this exhibition, say about his work.
